I've been here twice, and both times my experience was memorable because of the fantastic staff they have. They are knowledgeable and helpful. On a weekday, it's a bit slower paced but on a Saturday afternoon, it is busy busy! We started with the dips which was a great starter. Then ordered the whole fish (I think sea bass) and some veggies sides. Pretty well balanced for two people. I'd come back with more people because this is quite accommodating for larger groups.

I was visiting a friend in Astoria and we decided to have Greek food while in the neighborhood. The restaurant was bustling but not overcrowded and luckily, no wait! They added more tables as guests came and our server was super jovial and accommodating. We ordered an anti pasta of dips, which were all very tasty and garlicky. Then we split a sea bass and that was cooked perfectly, split and deboned with a light sauce. It came with lemon potatoes and mixed veg.

Came here for a surprise birthday party for my friend--the restaurant is very large and we were seated at a long table in a more private room in the back. The servers were so friendly and helped us surprise our friend as he walked into the restaurant. We ordered a bunch of appetizers for the table--standouts were the octopus, cheese dips, and fried zucchini which were all delicious. Our group ordered a bunch of appetizers and I ended up being too full for an entree so I got a spinach pie. This was flaky buttery goodness and a huge portion so I had to take it home! My boyfriend got the lamb souvlaki platter which was also great. The staff helped us to cut the birthday cake we had brought for our friend and also gave complimentary dessert at the end (Galaktoboureko). It had the perfect texture of crispy on the outside and soft custard on the inside and wasn't overly sweet. This is a great place for a casual meal or group gathering!

I've heard such great things about Stamatis, that I had to bring my entourage to check them out. They definitely did NOT disappoint! This beautifully decorated Greek restaurant is much larger than it looks from the outside! They have a large Main dining room but there are also two huge private rooms in the back. I can see people hosting large parties here! On this Wednesday evening, there were 12 of us, and our server Nick took care of us. Wonderful service and hospitality! When I dine with these large groups I usually do the family-style ordering. After I placed our orders, our waiter came over to me and said, excuse me but I have to ask: Why did you order those dishes? Did someone recommend them to you? I said, I looked over their menu and picked those menu items because some were fave items and others were new and unusual dishes to me; and no, nobody recommended those dishes. I became concerned, and asked why, are those not good dishes?!?! lol Our waiter said I made excellent choices, and some are their best dishes! It's just that some of the entrees I ordered are not ordered by many, and he was curious as to how I knew about them. Well, I'll take that as a compliment! :D This was our shared Menu (shared by 4 ppl): - Bread (complimentary): freshly toasted and buttered. Wonderful! - Greek Salad ($16/large): come on, ya gotta have Greek Salad at a Greek restaurant, right? Opa! The salad came undressed; oil & vinegar was provided on the table. - Grilled Octopus ($25.50): grilled to perfection! This is a must-have! - Papoutsaki ($18): This was a stuffed eggplant. Wonderful dish; seasoned well, and just melted in your mouth. Recommended! - Lamb Fricassee ($26): This was a fall-off-the-bone lamb shank in Fricasee sauce. I've never had anything like this before, and it was fantastic. Another recommended dish! - Pork Souvlaki w.Pita & Lemon Potatoes ($18.50): This came with 3 skewers of pork. Strangely, not all skewers were the same. Some pork pieces were perfectly cooked; tender and delicious, while other pieces were a little tough & chewy. But overall, still a great dish. The lemon potatoes were great and the Tzatziki sauce was to die for! - Galaktoboureko (Complimentary): A traditional Greek dessert of custard baked in filo dough. What a fantastic way to end our meal! We were all pretty full after dinner, but we all licked our Galaktoboureko plates clean! lol Thanks to Stamatis for this complimentary dessert! This restaurant is another Keeper, and I can't wait to go back to try some of their fish and seafood dishes! They have a huge menu, so there's plenty to pick from. Thanks to Stamatis and Nick (our waiter) for a wonderful dining experience. We shall be back!

The food at Stamatis is amazing!!! I would prefer to hit Stamatis over some of the seemingly more popular places in the neighborhood. They are consistent, the wait staff is great and to the point and the food is great. If one were to ask what is good there, I'd probably reply with: "the Greek food..." The Chicken Souvlaki platter is good and a classic. The Spaghetti sauteed vegetarian is also very good. I have eaten both the next day as leftovers after not eating all my food and been very pleased. There is a great selection of seafood. I have had a mixed vegetable dish that was a little more hearty than the one that appears on the menu and it was wonderful. Talking to the wait staff is key.

We were in the area for an event and I found this place for lunch. This is an old school Greek restaurant with a great outdoor dining area. We ordered the stuffed cabbage and lamb souvlaki platter with lemon potatoes to share. I enjoyed both dishes. However, they were a bit under seasoned. That's my only criticism. Otherwise, well made and solid. The best part was the complimentary galoktoboureka - phyllo dough filled with custard drizzled with syrup served warm. I thought it would be deathly sweet, but it wasn't at all. It was amazing. The service was friendly. Their patrons were mostly Greek locals and the dishes they ordered looked amazing. Would def come back when in the area.

Stamatis has been a family favorite of ours for a long time. They specialize in group dining and can accommodate large parties. I've been here on several occasions for birthdays and holidays. It's definitely worth the trip to Astoria even if you're not local. The food is very authentic. All of the servers speak Greek and the menu is in Greek and English's My favorite items to order here are the char grilled octopus, the lamb chops and the Saganaki cheese, which is otherworldly good. On my most recent visit we also tried the mezze dips for the first time, which came with pita bread, and the fried zucchini. The dips were all good and flavorful. I really enjoyed the zucchini more than I expected to. It tasted even better with a dash of salt- very addicting. The service is also very good. We were a party of six and our waiter was very attentive to us, changing our plates and refilling our water as needed. Something to note is that when you have a large party, they do not bring individual sides for the entrees, but instead bring out sides for the table. For the table they brought us two types of roasted potatoes, French fries, and some kind of sautéed greens. At the end, they also brought out a complimentary pastry dessert for each person and coffee/tea, which was a great way to end the meal. Overall, I think the food is a great value for everything you get. The service is friendly and the food is incredibly tasty. Highly recommend.
